Thiksey Monastery is one of the largest and most architecturally impressive monasteries in Ladakh. Located around 19 km from Leh, it resembles the Potala Palace of Lhasa and dominates the landscape of the Indus Valley.

The monastery belongs to the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism and houses over 100 monks.
